NEW POLICY

 

1.0              ENERGY AND RESOURCE POLICY

1.1              Uintah School District recognizes the obligations and expectations regarding the management of energy and natural resources. 

1.2              Uintah School District will provide guidelines and procedures that enable district facilities and departments to participate in an energy management program.

2.0              LIGHTING

2.1              All lights will be turned off in any area which will be unoccupied for a period in excess of one hour.

2.2              Under no circumstances will decorative lighting be permitted.

3.0              TEMPERATURE CONTROL

3.1              Heating season temperatures of 68 to 74 degrees shall be maintained in classrooms and offices.

3.2              Personnel will not obstruct ventilation ducts or return air grills with books, charts, plants or supplies.

3.3              Thermostats must be kept free of any materials that might restrict air flow or otherwise conflict with the proper function of this equipment by dramatically changing the air source or temperature around the device.

3.4              Entrance and access doors into facilities may be limited where possible to restrict potential heat or cooling loss.

3.5              Portable space heaters of any kind are not allowed in facilities as a matter of safety (see Fire Compliance Policy).

3.6              Facilities will not be either heated or cooled on weekends, holidays or during summer months.  Exceptions to this rule such as athletic activities or theatrical events must be scheduled two weeks in advance.

3.7              Small group activities shall be scheduled in appropriately sized meeting space. 

3.8              Exterior doors and windows shall not be blocked open or left open for any reason.

4.0       COMPUTER USE

4.1              Computers should be turned off at the end of the day.   

4.2              Extended holidays and summer break are critical times when computers must be turned off

4.3              Administrators and teachers shall be given an end of year check list verifying computers and all electronic equipment is turned off.

5.0       APPLIANCES

5.1       Refrigerators and other common residential cooking appliances shall be limited in their use to designated areas of the facility as determined by the local fire authority and/ or the school district safety and risk management specialist.

5.2       Candle warmers, mug warmers, fans and other residential quality    appliances shall not be used in district facilities.

6.0       WATER

6.1       Faucet, urinals and toilet shall be kept in good repair. 

6.2       Landscape sprinkler timers shall be managed by an appropriately trained maintenance technician.

6.3       Landscape sprinkler malfunctions must be repaired immediately by the facility custodian or reported to the maintenance department when necessary.
